But how was the Tortellino di Valeggio born?
Legend has it that Silvia, a young and beautiful nymph who lived with her companions in the waters of the Mincio, falls in love with Malco a nobleman in the service of Giangaleazzo Visconti and who, as a token of love, leaves him with a golden silk handkerchief knotted.
Isabella, a noble girl in love with Malco denounces the nymph for witchcraft and has her beloved imprisoned as an accomplice. The story goes that Silvia freed the beautiful Malco from captivity and they both dived into the waters of the river where they will live their love story free.
